ABSTRACT
This chapter opens the discussion about utilizing technology and various cutting-edge applications to promote and encourage sustainability. In this first of a two-part installment, we will be taking a close look at urban planning techniques and green building strategies. This is especially important today as we attempt to wean our societies off of traditional energy sources and make the transition to more sustainable options. It is also timely as we address critical issues, such as climate change, and look for new ways to deal more effectively with the natural environment around us in an effort to conserve resources and provide for current populations and beyond.
