ABSTRACT
Definitions and terminology form an essential part of understanding the world around us. While definitions are called into existence to create more clarity and avoid misunderstandings when discussing a particular subject, not all concepts are easy to describe. This oftentimes causes confusion among different communities, primarily when they use the same terminology with different meanings and for other purposes. This chapter introduces the importance of having definitions in the field intersecting healthcare, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Following, this chapter provides working definitions that provide a basis for understanding this complex interplay. It also explains how these systems are embodied, their autonomy levels, and how users interact with these systems. Finally, this chapter concludes by explaining what cloud robotics is and how this advancement helped produce cheaper robots and support mass-scale deployment.
