ABSTRACT

This chapter covers all aspects of the various sheet metalworking operations in detail. Therefore, we had to classify the numerous operations into groups. First, we have the press working operations, which include cutting operations (shearing, cutoff, parting, punching, blanking, etc.) and sheet-forming operations (bending, embossing, deep drawing, and forming). The different operations in each group were individually covered, and the design features and advantages are emphasized in each case. Next, high-energy rate forming of sheet metals is explained together with their advantages and limitations. Finally, sheet metal spinning, together with the geometric features of the products manufactured by this process, is discussed. The chapter is supplemented by a solved design example and design projects for the student to try. This is added to review questions and numerical problems.
