ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and fuzzy-TOPSIS methods of multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) and their application in textiles. In Section 3.1, a brief overview of TOPSIS and fuzzy-TOPSIS methods is given. Section 3.2 presents the main operation of TOPSIS. Section 3.3 deals with the step-by-step working principles of TOPSIS with an example of a MCDM problem. Application of TOPSIS in textiles is dealt with in Section 3.4. A detailed research outcome on the selection of handloom fabrics for summer clothing using TOPSIS is also presented in Section 3.4. Section 3.5 explains the working principles of the fuzzy-TOPSIS method. Step-by-step details of the fuzzy-TOPSIS method are discussed with an example of a silk cocoons selection problem in Section 3.6. MATLAB® codings of TOPSIS and fuzzy-TOPSIS algorithms are also provided in this chapter.
