ABSTRACT

In the preceding two chapters, we studied the fundamental properties of plasmas in or near thermodynamic equilibrium. The subjects treated therein were mostly concerned with description of various plasma properties in a stationary state. Another class of problems, related rather closely to certain experimental aspects of plasma physics, are those involving transient processes in plasmas. It is the purpose of the present chapter to investigate some of the problems in this category, based on the Vlasov description of plasmas.
