ABSTRACT

By now it should be clear that cars have gotten a lot smarter. We have seen examples of ECMs and complex algorithms used to manage everything from ignition advance to rear spoilers. Repeatedly, advanced digital controls have made all sorts of things feasible that were once only vaguely possible. As a result, today’s car is more responsive, more efficient, more comfortable, and safer than ever before; and the possibilities for future improvements are only growing. As mentioned before, it’s no exaggeration to say that the entire operation of the modern automobile has been redefined by digital control.
