ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the results of studies on the behavior of seafarers conducted at the Ship Maneuvering Simulator Center of the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology are summarized. In particular, it refers to the research on the behavioral characteristics of inexperienced seafarers conducted to improve the present state of ship navigation, in which the behavior of inexperienced seafarers on actual duty often impedes safety. The behavioral characteristics of inexperienced seafarers reported herein are seen not only in Japanese seafarers but in seafarers from all countries.
