ABSTRACT

As explained in the previous chapter, a team is organized when there are environmental conditions in which safe navigation cannot be achieved through single watch. Consequently, a bridge team is organized in circumstances requiring a high level of competency in order to maintain safety. However, when past accidents are analyzed, there are reports in which an active team was present, but one that was functioning at a low level and thus produced results no better than those of a single watch. a bridge team occasionally lead to accidents. In this chapter, the functions required of constituent team members that are necessary for a functioning bridge team are described.148
