This chapter deals with surface magnetic excitations in situations where the magnetic dipole–dipole interactions are no longer negligible, as they were assumed to be in chapter 4 for surface modes in exchange-dominated magnetic systems. We have already discussed in a general way that the relative importance of the exchange and dipolar terms, as regards the dynamical properties of the excitations, is influenced by the wavevector q (see section 2.3 and figure 2.5).
