ABSTRACT

This book has focused on the experience of the agricultural sector throughout the process of structural transformation of state economies. It has addressed many aspects of the role of agriculture, its characteristics and some of the ramifications of its growth. The linkages between these topics was provided by Kuznets's theory of modern economic growth, which described the main source of growth, the structural transformation that accompanies growth, and the environment in which this process occurs (chapter one). These linkages can now be amplified with empirical evidence from the agricultural states of India.
