ABSTRACT

Sleep disorders are one of the most common complaints of patients who see a psychiatrist. Indeed, it is a known fact that mental disorders almost always include sleep disorders. In some cases, sleep disorders are intrinsic to the psychiatric disorder itself, yet it often transpires that the sleep disorders are due to side effects of medication. We know from professional literature—and I know this from my own experience as a psychiatrist—that sleep disorders may be the first indication of a mental disease, before the appearance of any other symptoms.
