ABSTRACT
Perturbations of the ionosphere in association with the increased dissipation of solar wind energy remains one of the most challenging topics of upper atmosphere physics. Such disturbances have a profound influence on the global morphology of the ionosphere and constitute an important link in the complex chain of solar-terrestrial relations. They are also of practical interest since they may severely degrade transionospheric radio communications.
