ABSTRACT

As the life expectancy in the United States continues to increase, elderly adults across the nation are faced with the challenge of physical relocation because of increasing medical needs. However, finding the "right" place to move is not an easy mission. Some elderly adults may move in with family or friends. For others, the right place will be sharing a small, maintenancefree cottage in a retirement village with a spouse. Still others will find locations where medical assistance is available around-the-clock. In all scenarios, the process of relocation inevitably requires lifestyle changes. One such change that is often ignored during this process is the effect of relocation on social relationships.
