ABSTRACT

Despite the recent spate of publications on behavior modification there is little in the literature to guide those responsible for the training of behavior therapists. One reason for this may well be that the majority of those now working in this field are essentially self-taught. Typically they acquired their new skills by extrapolation from concepts and techniques familiar to them from other settings, notably the psychological laboratory or the psychiatric clinic. In the early stages of any new professional enterprise such a state of affairs may be inevitable but to perpetuate it would be inconsistent with current manpower needs in the Mental Health professions.
