ABSTRACT
At the end of What Do Unions Do?, Freeman and Medoff (F&M 1984, p. 247) conclude that “unionism on net probably raises social efficiency” and (p. 250) “recent trends have brought the level of union density below the optimal level.” For these reasons, they advocate revision in the nation’s labor laws in order to foster greater unionization in the American economy.
