ABSTRACT

The Commonwealth of Dominica, an English-speaking Small Island Developing State (SID) located in the Eastern Caribbean (Lesser Antilles) has a population of 72,793 and covers an area of 754 km2, of which 48 km is coastline. With a GDP of $480 million ($4,250 per capita), Dominica is considered an upper middle-income country (World Bank, 2014; World Bank and IFC, 2011). Dominica’s currency is tied with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and in October 2014, one Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD) was equivalent to US$0.3681 (Government of Dominica 2014).
