ABSTRACT
While corporate Australia has made a credible commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, its transition towards sustainable enterprise is less encouraging. Australian business is predominantly focused on strategic CSR – where social and environmental issues are mitigated through risk management. Where sustainable enterprise is apparent, it is mostly among those seeking competitive differentiation through sustainability, or among social enterprises. On the whole, sustainable enterprise lacks integration within the business community and responsiveness, creativity and circularity (closed-loop/cradle-to-cradle) strategies are rare.
