TO ESTABLISH a common understanding of what environmental management is, let us take a closer look at the main components that comprise a generic environmental management programme: the structure, responsibilities, focus and ultimate goal. 2 As an insight into this chapter—which provides examples of various types and levels of training for individuals engaged in some form of environmental responsibility—it is worth examining closely the main components of a generic environmental management system.
