ABSTRACT

This book has been concerned, on a global basis, with the relationships between the state, the market and civil society in the development of corporate social responsibility, accountability and sustainable development. The book seeks to unmask the power vested in each discreet sector and illustrates through theoretical and empirical case studies how power has been regulated and exploited to gain advantage. It also shows how the interdependent, contingent and dynamic interchange between the state, corporations and civil society is integral to the development of corporate social responsibility and accountability processes (Demirag 1995).
