ABSTRACT
In 1999, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) 1 launched the research and technology programme, Sustainable Development, which aimed at effective stimulation of a restructuring of the economy towards a sustainable future. Various research and development projects as well as demonstration and diffusion measures have been supported by a number of subprogrammes in order to give new impetus to innovation in Austria’s economy.
