ABSTRACT
I have found inspiration in the messages of Total Quality Management but was keen to see how much of the quality message I could transfer from theory to practice to help enhance one aspect of my current work: the preparation, delivery and follow-up of inservice training events. The first real opportunity to present itself was a training afternoon for 43 people — 26 support staff, 14 teachers and three headteachers — on the subject of developing a working partnership between ancillary support staff and teachers. The group represented mainstream primary schools in the Hastings area. This chapter describes what happened and offers a positive step forward based on my experience of putting TQM theory into practice: a set of criteria against which in-service training could be planned or measured — The Ten Training Triggers.
