It isn’t easy for me to talk about Edoardo. Ever since I held a memorial in his honour, as per the wishes of his family, in Palazzo Tursi in Genoa on 22 May 2010, I have been writing and speaking publicly about him, both in Italy and abroad. I should say that I have been writing and speaking about Sanguineti the poet, the intellectual, the politician, the translator, the literary critic, the essayist, the playwright, the lexicologist; now I’ve been asked to provide an individual testimony, which is something rather different, for it requires me to talk about personal affairs, and I generally tend to avoid addressing anything personal in my writing.
