ABSTRACT
21Throughout its history, Dutch society has always been receptive to new technologies, approaches, and policies to help it overcome its many water-related challenges. Dutch communities began to alter the coast as early as the ninth century, but their impact became a major factor in coastal evolution during the 19th and 20th centuries.
