ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the evolution of technology in counselor education programs. The content is divided primarily into some key areas that pertain to the counselor education field: the use of technology for faculty and students in academe, its pros and cons; the use of technology in counselor supervision including long-distance supervision, recording devices, and the assurance of quality; and the applications of technology in counseling therapeutic settings and its ethical implications. The chapter also provides information about the legitimization process by CACREP and the accreditation of fully online counselor education programs. Finally, it provides information on telehealth and its funding, and a set of recommendations and implications for counselor education programs.
