ABSTRACT
This chapter is relevant to counselors because obtaining professional certification is an important choice many new professionals will face. Discussions of weighing the advantages and disadvantages of national certification in this chapter may assist counselors in making this choice. This chapter will assist counselors to understand the types of specialty certification available, the advantages of professional certification, the limitations of certification, and the qualifications needed to obtain each certification.
