ABSTRACT
Clinical work is the culminating experience for students in a counseling program and becomes increasingly important as students leave their graduate programs and prepare for work in the counseling field. The purpose of this chapter is to demystify the practicum and internship application process as well as prepare students for the required elements of postgraduate clinical work. The chapter will include information for trainees and supervisors on how to search for a field experience site, complete the application process, and manage professional practice expectations. Key areas of focus will include establishing affiliation agreements, supervision contracts and orientations, and how to support trainee professional development and conduct during clinical practice.
