ABSTRACT

Tracking emerging technologies and speculating on future uptake and influence is a risky business. Consider, for example, ‘digital paper’. The idea that you could interact with a ‘sheet of paper-like’ computer screen that would be robust, but thin enough to roll up or even fold, while also perhaps touch sensitive, and even without wires – has been a seductive vision for many years, (Negroponte, 1995). Arguably, it is inevitable that this sort of innovation will happen at some point, but predicting when it will be available as a consumer product is too hard to call.
