The Roma or “gypsies” are considered to be the largest minority group in Europe. 1 The estimates of the size of the Roma population differ widely. According to the World Bank, about seven to nine million Roma live in Europe; approximately 70 percent of Roma in Europe live in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. 2
