ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses problems of access to, and qualitative analyses of police murder files. It is based on my PhD research into patterns and scenarios of masculine homicide and violence across England and Wales. Police murder files are a type of documentary source rarely used by researchers and, to the best of my knowledge, nothing has been published regarding the specific problems of using data contained in such files.
