ABSTRACT

While transmedia franchises are not new, the cross-media nature of twenty-first-century transmedia franchises means they will differ substantially from the literary, film, video game, and other media franchises that preceded them. As technological and commercial pressures drive the adoption of transmedia franchises, the integration of storytelling across multiple media platforms will be much more extensive than in the past. As with most technology-driven change, the emergence of modern transmedia franchises will drive the need to new creative approaches and will present significant challenges to those working in various forms of media.
