ABSTRACT
New Year’s Eve 1999: people around the world have stockpiled supplies in preparation for possible computer breakdowns. The Y2K problem, also called the ‘millennium bug’, was due to old computer code not being prepared to cope with the change from 99 to 00 in the final two digits of the year. There were many predictions of disaster but, when the time came, nothing much happened. Aside from a few malfunctions, everything operated as usual.
