ABSTRACT
The main aim of this chapter is to give a diachronic analysis of land tenure in and surrounding the casale of Trianda on Rhodes. Drawing on unpublished documents from the Hospitallers’ archive on Malta, supplemented by published primary material, examples of fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth century tenure will be illustrated. This will give an idea of patterns of tenure and personnel, pious or otherwise, and, to a lesser degree, shed some light on Rhodian village life.
