ABSTRACT
On Easter Sunday 30 March 1383 a mission sent by the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, led by the high-ranking officer, the Großschäffer 1 of Malbork, brother Henry of Allen, arrived in Paris. 2 The Teutonic Knights were received by the young king of France, Charles VI and his uncles. The diplomats from Malbork attended Holy Mass in the Sainte-Chapelle on the feast day, and after its completion the king offered his guests a most sacred relic – a splinter of the True Cross (described in the source as: ‘eyn gros stucke’, so: a big piece). Thanks to the detailed report sent by Henry of Allen to the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Conrad Zöllner of Rottenstein, we know the whole course of events. 3
