ABSTRACT
Globalisation in its wake has created both negative impacts as well as new ways in which “the knowledge economy” plays an important role in global, regional and national activity (Dunning, 2000b). While there has been much work done on how regions have specialised through intensification of knowledge in specific industries, the Indian IT industry being cited as an example, there is not much work done or cross-border alliances forged with regard to the role of knowledge institutions that create and provide the infrastructure for the penetration, continuance and sustainability of knowledge industries.
