ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how sport organizations engage stakeholders to further sport organization's environmental sustainability efforts. As sport organization personnel begin to implement environmental sustainability efforts across the organization and game day experiences, it is imperative for stakeholders to be on board with these initiatives. Once organizational personnel decide to implement environmental sustainability efforts, the organization still faces challenges to appease stakeholder groups. Sport organizations are in a unique position where external stakeholder groups co-produce the sport product and the environmental impact. Thus, buy in from stakeholder groups is critical for the success of any sport organization's environmental sustainability efforts. Mega-events like the Olympics have a tremendous environmental impact. As sport organizations incorporate environmentally sustainable efforts into their daily operations, it is imperative that stakeholder groups buy in to these efforts. Stakeholder groups can dramatically help these efforts to further reduce the sport organization's impact on the natural environment.
