ABSTRACT

The research project on communications leadership and culture in Mexico is part of a global study of leadership in public relations and communications management in 23 countries, undertaken by the University of Alabama and the Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations. This chapter presents the results of the interviews with 16 public relations leaders followed by some findings from the survey of 210 communicators in Mexican organizations. Survey participants said the issue of most concern is 'Improving the measurement of communication effectiveness to demonstrate value'. Perhaps Mexican practitioners can use new technologies and tools to assist measurement efforts. The global survey also examined the skills and qualities that communication leaders must possess in order to be successful in facing the main issues and challenges confronting the profession. The seven skills or qualities of leadership in the survey are based on the seven dimensions of excellent leadership in public relations developed by Meng and Berger.
