ABSTRACT

I’m fairly certain I was asked to contribute this essay to this book on account of a radio program I did for just about a decade for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation called Global Village. It was a weekly show that ran on the main CBC national radio network, CBC’s satellite channel and RCI (Radio Canada International)—CBC’s international service. Various specials and award winning episodes also ran in a variety of markets in the United States, Australia, and elsewhere and the show garnered many international prizes. The global reach of the show reflected its international scope and its dependence on music from around the world to carry the stories that made up each week’s lineup.
