ABSTRACT
Efforts to understand environmental justice are further complicated by the term’s scopeinternational, national, and local; by its broad definition of the environment-where one lives, works, plays, and goes to school; and by its broad range of concerns-such as public health, natural resource conservation, and worker safety in urban and rural environs in both developed and developing countries. The quest to explain the essence of the problems underlying environmental justice disputes has been manifested in varying terminology and definitions used to refer to such disputes.
