ABSTRACT
As Roland Bleiker (2015) points out, images do not speak by themselves and are therefore always in need of interpretation. At the same time, because images are produced and “read” in cultural and historical context, there are not an infinite number of interpretations that are realistically possible. I focus on those particular images that are part of security politics. “Security images” are used to support claims that something is a threat to our security. Images may also be seen as so offensive that they are seen as threatening to our sense of self.
