ABSTRACT

Access to clean drinking water, energy and food at a level suffi cient to meet basic human needs is a fundamental right or, in a way, directly promotes those rights. Global demands for water and energy resources and food are set to increase dramatically, as a result of rising incomes, demographic shifts and changing consumption patterns and lifestyles. The basic resources for producing energy and food and provision of water supplies are under increasing stress. This is endangering water, energy and food security, putting in jeopardy the development goals of improved human well-being, economic development and poverty eradication.
