ABSTRACT
The Finnish Orthodox Church (FOC), whose membership makes up roughly 1 per cent of the Finnish population, represents a former bishopric of the Moscow Patriarchate. The FOC has been an autonomous church since 1923. Its autonomy was granted by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople at the request of the Finnish government and the local Orthodox community.
