ABSTRACT
In constructing this Handbook of Global Public Health in Asia we have sought to provide a perspective on the major health challenges from a variety of angles. As we said at the beginning, we did not aim to be a comprehensive textbook but to show how diverse and dynamic the public health issues and responses in the most rapidly transitioning part of the world are. Asia is made up of high-, low-and middle-income countries, of huge urban conurbations and remote rural areas. It faces the threats of emerging disease, of environmental as well as physical disaster and a growing tide of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
