ABSTRACT

This chapter will look at the increase of colorectal and breast cancer in the Asia-Pacifi c region and briefl y discuss cancer trends in the region and globally. Since colorectal cancer (CRC) and breast cancer are rising so drastically in the region, this chapter will then use these two cancers as examples to discuss cancer screening programmes. The chapter will highlight screening experiences of these cancers in Hong Kong, look at controversies associated with population-based screening, summarize the signifi cant challenges in designing and implementing screening programmes and make predictions on future perspectives.
