ABSTRACT

This chapter uses tobacco control in Hong Kong as an example of public health policy development, the support of civil society and the role of advocacy, and suggests that these actions are ubiquitous in public health in Asia and worldwide. The chapter examines the history of tobacco control in Hong Kong and draws out principles as to how this has led to the present low smoking prevalence rates, the players involved, factors that have been infl uential, obstacles, lessons learned and the next steps which need to be taken, leading to an eventual end-game scenario for tobacco use.
