ABSTRACT
The capuchins are among the most numerous and widespread nonhuman primates of the New World, widely diffused in Central and South America from Belize to northern Argentina. They constitute the genus Cebus whose taxonomic position and phylogenetic origin, as in general that of New World primates, is still today a matter of debate.
