ABSTRACT

As was indicated earlier, one of the chief concerns that prompted the conference on which this book is based was how to teach graduate students in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, Columbia University School of Public Health, about community-based long term care for the elderly. While there are well-developed curricula in gerontology and, to some extent, in long term care, there is very little available on community-based long term care because this field is in its infancy. There is a high probability, however, that new graduates of programs such as that in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology will be asked to work in, administer, plan for and develop community-based long term care services and programs for the elderly. Undoubtedly, that is the wave of the future.
