ABSTRACT
SUMMARY. As part of a larger study of adoptive families and their adopted children, the authors conducted in-depth, personal interviews with 18 adoptive families who experienced an adoption disruption. In addition to feeling ill-prepared for the adoptive placement, parents indicated that they felt isolated and alienated during the child's placement and deeply traumatized during and following the disruption. Implications for social work practice are suggested.
