ABSTRACT
The idea that the legitimacy of law rested in the political imagination of its subject audience was certainly one understood and accepted by Shakespeare and his contemporaries. If we do not think of law in these terms today, it is because we have either abandoned or lost a particular jurisprudential heritage.
