ABSTRACT

Children’s literature in the Gulf region is part of a larger entity: Arabic children’s literature. Although the Gulf states have their history, traditions and economy that differ from other Arab countries, yet GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) states share Islamic and Arab culture with the rest of the Arab region. Children’s literature in the Gulf continues to benefit from the literatures written for Arab children, which preceded it by more than half a century. Although it developed in the second half of the twentieth century, it has flourished within a relatively short period of time to become a fresh addition to contemporary Arabic children’s literature. With globalization and the information technology which have opened channels among different cultures, GCC children’s literature has broadened its scope beyond its culture while retaining its characteristic identity.
