ABSTRACT
Because the ocean connects all shores and gravity moves the world downhill to the sea, one cannot talk about the ocean as separate from the land and atmosphere. The ocean’s woes begin on land with us, and, in addition, the carbon dioxide that is warming the air and ocean is also acidifying the seas. Because the ocean contains and reflects rapid changes, we can see how physical changes in oceans create new moral imperatives.
